My Story
At heart, I’m an artist, humanitarian, storyteller, and adventurer. I possess the unique ability to connect the viewer to a cause through impactful storytelling, photography, and video production. Recently retired from the home improvement industry in 2022, I moved to Vietnam from America in September of 2022 to pursue voluntary humanitarian photography and filmmaking.
Born out of a deep love for Vietnam and a profound respect for its people, my humanitarian photography and video service is more than just a creative endeavor—it’s a heartfelt mission. With every story, photograph, and film, I seek to capture the beauty, strength, and resilience of the human spirit, especially among the children, poor, elderly, and less fortunate.
My storytelling journey began with a passion for the art of photography and filmmaking, where I found not just a medium to express creativity, but a powerful tool to tell stories that matter. Stories that often go unheard—of those who live in the shadows, of the elderly whose wisdom is overlooked, the children that suffer, and of the less fortunate who struggle silently. Combining this artistic passion with a commitment to volunteerism, I dedicate my time and skills to bringing visibility to these communities.
I believe that through my lenses, I can highlight the dignity and grace of those often forgotten by society, and in doing so, inspire compassion and action in others. This volunteer service is not just about creating beautiful images; it’s about making a difference. Each project is driven by the desire to give back to the country that has given us so much, to lift up those who are struggling, and to ensure that their stories are told with the respect and empathy they deserve.
My work is a labor of love, fueled by the hope that through my efforts, we can help build a world where no one is invisible, and where every life is valued and cherished.
My Approach
I have over 30 years of photography and videography experience. This includes wedding, portrait, travel, nature photography, and photojournalism. With all of this rolled into one, I have a unique ability to work quickly and thoroughly in difficult situations with great results.
During my years of capturing imagery, I’ve learned how to “get the shot”. Not only from a technical and artistic standpoint but also from an ethical point. In other words, “the means don’t justify the end”. Capturing great photos isn’t rewarding if the subject is upset in the process, leaving me with a feeling of a “stolen image”.
As an artist, I have a good sense of “where things belong”. I apply this to composition, lighting, and even where I should physically be to capture images. I also apply this to my writing, creating simple and heartfelt travel stories written in a style that intrigues and captivates the reader.
A compassionate approach to humanitarian work through photography and video involves capturing stories with dignity, respect, and empathy. Maintaining dignity for the subject, and preserving their “human experience” is paramount to capturing images and telling stories. It requires focusing on the humanity of those affected by crisis or hardship, rather than exploiting their suffering.
By building trust with subjects and presenting their experiences authentically, my photographs and videos can create powerful narratives that foster understanding, evoke empathy, and inspire meaningful action. This approach ensures that the voices and stories of those in need are amplified, not overshadowed by the storyteller’s own perspective.
I specialize in an “in the moment” style of photography and videography, perfect for capturing the authentic moments of local life and culture in a photojournalistic way. Traveling light with the ability to work quickly and adapt to any situation, I focus on creating compelling, “slice-of-life” video and images that tell real stories, highlighting the essence of everyday experiences and human connections.
My approach to capturing imagery and documenting my experiences is simple, it’s from the heart. I live in the moment and remember, in God’s eyes we’re all created equally. It doesn’t matter what side of the camera you’re on.
Service Area
Asia Travel Media is a nonprofit, free humanitarian filmmaking and photography organization based in the greater Da Nang city area, dedicated to documenting and promoting meaningful charitable causes. While centered in Da Nang as our primary focus area, the service is available to travel throughout Vietnam, including remote regions in both the north and south of Vietnam.
By capturing the stories of underserved communities, particularly in rural and isolated areas, the service aims to shine a light on charitable efforts that often go unnoticed. Through compelling visual and written storytelling, it seeks to inspire support and drive positive change for the most vulnerable populations.
